Pictish Cross & carved stones
Historic Architecture models
This is a contemporary sculpture based on Celtic & Pictish metal casting. It depicts an Outline map of Scotland. The original of this piece was carved by Stuart Fellowes into a block of wax in the same manner that a Celtic craftsman would have done to create a “Lost Wax” bronze casting.
It represents the mainland and the largest of the 790 islands that constitute the land area of 30,414 square miles. The territorial extent of Scotland is generally that established by the 1237 Treaty of York between Scotland and the Kingdom of England and the 1266 Treaty of Perth between Scotland and Norway. The Ordnance survey calculated the geographical centre of Scotland to be on the side of a hill called Srón na h-Eiteich near Loch Garry.
Cold-cast bronze reproduction of Stuart Fellowes’ original sculpture.
