Celtic Heart

This is a contemporary sculpture based on early Celtic & Pictish rock-art carvings and depicts two hearts entwined in a knotwork pattern.

Hearts are used as a symbol to refer to the spiritual and emotional aspects of a person. Poetically used to refer to the soul, hearts are most commonly used as symbols of love. The Celtic heart is one of the most romantic of symbols, formed from one continuous line known as the “infinity knot”, so called as they have no beginning and no end. This represents the eternal and everlasting union of two souls and their love as they travel through the journey of life.

This carved design is a heart within a heart. Spiritually the heart is the deepest part of us, our very essence, our soul. We say things like “In my heart of hearts” meaning the deepest part of our being where our true feelings lie. That is why when giving our heart to another, we are in essence, giving ourselves.
